The nights are drawing in and we’re all enjoying having cosy nights in front of the fire.

As autumn is here, we’re taking a look at the best red wines to serve with the hearty meals we’re now cooking to keep out the cold and take us into the winter…

Pumpkin soup– Autumn is the season of pumpkins and other squashes such as butternut squash. They are wonderful in smooth, hearty soups. Serve this soup with our smooth Garum. It is created by Luis Pérez from 70% Merlot, 10% Syrah, 10% Tempranillo, 9% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon hand-harvested grapes. It tastes of ripe, red fruit and spices.

Roast beef– What would Britain be without a traditional Sunday roast? It’s a mouth-watering meal, and it needs a wine with heart to accompany it. Check out our 12 Meses 2012, a smooth red wine from Cortijo de Jara created from Shiraz, Merlot, and Tempranillo grapes. Pour it into a glass and enjoy the aromas of crystallised plums and woodsmoke.

Seared tuna– Our Jovenby Cortijo de Jara is a fantastic accompaniment to this light, but meaty-tasting fish dish. Its clean and bright taste is reflected in its cherry colour.

Lamb shanks– What a comforting meal when the weather turns rainy and cold! Take a bottle of our Entrechuelos Premiumby Cortijo de Torrecera to enjoy with them. It has a rounded and fruity taste.

Game pie– These pies can contain rabbit, pigeon, venison, pheasant, or woodcock, so finding the right wine to serve with them is important. You need a wine which will complement all the meats, rather than fight with them. Our Samarucofrom Luis Pérez is made from 40% Petit Verdot, 30% Merlot, and 30% Syrah grapes and is powerful enough not to be overwhelmed by game meats.

Pork chops– A wonderful mid-week treat, accompany this with our Petit Verdot. This fine wine from Luis Pérez has the aromas of berries, stone, truffle, and ink, and a powerful and complex taste.

Bean stews– Autumn is the time for wonderful vegetarian bean stews. From Italian-inspired stews with fava and cannelloni beans to vegetarian versions of cassoulet, that French classic. Why not pair them with our amazing Alhocen Syrah Merlotcreated at the Cortijo de Torrecera vineyard from night-harvested grapes? Its colour is a deep red and its bouquet will remind you of red fruits, pepper, and cloves.

Roasted duck– A gourmet’s delight at this time of year. The taste of this meat is complemented by our Roble (Oak) 2014from Cortijo de Jara. The taste of red berries from the Tempranillo grapes is blended with the blackberry notes from the Merlot grapes.
